Title: Head of Medical Affairs (Senior Director)

Position Overview

This is a unique opportunity for a Medical Affairs leader to build a team of internally and externally facing professionals to support the launch of Fyarro, Aadi’s leading asset. The Head of Medical Affairs will have several responsibilities, such as: leading medical information development, investigator-initiated trial programs, and early access programs; recruiting, training and managing Medical Science Liaisons; overseeing medical publications; managing Health-Economics Outcome Research (HEOR), medical advisory boards, and patient advocacy; and conducting medical review of commercial marketing materials. The position will ultimately report to the Chief Medical Officer but will report to the Chief Commercial Officer in the interim.

The Head of Medical Affairs will be responsible for building and guiding the Medical Affairs function by setting a vision and direction for the department.  The role provides strategic leadership and works closely with cross-functional leadership that includes Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, and other functions to ensure that the Medical Affairs scientific and medical strategies are aligned with broader corporate and medical community needs. Close collaboration will be needed with the global experts in each given field to ensure patient voice, clinical and value impact, and regulatory inputs are incorporated. The Head of Medical Affairs will direct a team of employees and/or vendors to accomplish tasks, and liaise with Clinical Operations and Clinical Development to facilitate enrollment of company sponsored clinical trials.

The Head of Medical Affairs will serve as a critical member of the Global Launch team and work closely with Aadi’s Executive and Commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead Medical Affairs strategies including medical communications, engagement with opinion leaders, investigator-led research, HEOR, data dissemination, and external collaborations

  • Lead the development of Medical Affairs activities including publication planning, medical advisory boards, educational programs, conferences, and responding to requests for medical information

  • Design an MSL field team organization to support Aadi’s organizational and product needs by defining field team roles and responsibilities, and aligning them to key territories; execute on MSL hiring and training plan for MSLs to prepare the scientific and clinical community for Fyarro’s launch

  • Ensure systems, processes, and enabling technology are in place to support MSL team execution Provide medical expertise and collaborate in the development of strategies for commercial, market access, business development, and public relations

  • Establish professional relationships with the medical community and exchange scientific knowledge with global and regional key opinion leaders particularly those in oncology (e.g. sarcoma specialists)

  • Partner with Commercial to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant preparation and review of promotional and educational material

  • Establish and execute a strategic publication and congress plan; work with internal colleagues to develop key messages on unmet need, mechanism of action, target product profile, and among others

  • Partner with Clinical Operations and Clinical Development to facilitate enrollment of company sponsored clinical trials

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues (e.g. marketing, sales, patient advocacy, clinical, regulatory, legal and market access) to develop and execute strategic plans to execute provider engagement that drive disease awareness

  • Develop Key Performance Indicators for medical affairs organization with Executive Team buy-in and report on KPIs regularly

  • Foster an environment of compliance and integrity by managing and adhering to all company policies and Legal and Regulatory guidelines

 

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, PharmD, MD/DO) with experience in oncology

  • Ideally 10+ years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry from a mix of mid-sized to large and small companies; experience with single-asset biopharma companies preferred

  • 5+ years of leadership in Medical Affairs, with experience working with cross-functional in-house and field-based teams, and a record of retaining top performers. Direct EU5 Medical Affairs experience preferred.

  • Oncology commercial launch experience required (2+ successful launches) with strong working knowledge of oncology and the regulatory requirement relating to Medical Affairs activities; experience with specialty oncology or ultra-orphan indications preferred

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to quickly interpret scientific / clinical research and literature essential

  • Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of global healthcare commercialization defining market issues & developing strategy for Medical Affairs

  • Proven track record of performance via consistently meeting or exceeding financial and/or other quantitative targets and qualitative goals

  • Success leveraging market research data and communication of its results and application

  • Successful record of achieving and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory, legal, and operational rules

  • Proficient with MS Office applications and experienced working with external vendors

  • Can build productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders including KOLs and patient advocacy groups

  • Trustworthy with high level of integrity, possesses an enterprise mindset; strong process skills, sense of urgency; results-oriented, professionally driven, self-starter; resourceful, decisive and proactive

Other Relevant Information

  • This role can be based in Los Angeles OR remotely in US with regular travel to Los Angeles, with potential to travel to the EU and other markets as needed
